Whanau Challenge

Just in case you couldn't see the QR code in the last post.

Whanau Challenge

Te Wiki o te Reo Maori is happening in Week 2 of this term (25th July - 2nd August).  The theme for this year’s Māori language week is “Ngā Mātua” (nurturing the language for parents and children). Maungaraki School’s whanau group (Ngā Kākano Puawai) has created a whānau challenge (wero) to help our children, their families and those in the wider community to learn more about our local place names.  You will see 14 posters like this on display, or ‘hidden’ around our community, each one represents a different place mentioned in the Maungaraki School waiata (song).  Remember to check out our school blogs, twitter account and school website for QR codes as well.

By scanning the QR code on each poster you will find the meaning of the place name.  If you don’t have a QR reader you can download one for free via the app store.  Families can then choose the most creative way to share/present/display this information and either send it to rebecca.perkins@maungarakischool.net or drop off to the school office by Monday 3rd August.

Waimarie Pai! (Good luck!)

Whanau evening
Maungaraki School families are invited to come on a voyage with Reuben Tipoki (watch captain of Te Matau Māui) as he shares his knowledge and experiences from using traditional navigation techniques to sail around the Pacific.  The evening will start at 5:30 on Tuesday 4 August and will incorporate the prizes being handed out for our Whanau Challenge.

Please bring a plate of finger food dinner to share.

This event is open to all members of the Maungaraki Community.

Kerala wrote "Clifford the enormous dog is as enormous as a elephant".

Lauren wrote "I have a gigantic desk".

Richard wrote "An elephant is as huge as a skyscraper".

Racquel wrote "Ethan is cool like a surf man. He is smart like an owl."

Amelia wrote "Clifford is giant. He is so so so fast. He's cute. WOW."

Alvaro wrote "I am going to the library and I am the nicest to the school".

Isla wrote "Clifford is as big as a giraffe. Clifford is as fat as a elephant. Clifford is taller than a house."

Boston wrote "Clifford is as humongous like a building. He's really fat like a giant. He's got long legs like a elephants."
